Stepaniuc suggests Urecheanu should replace Speaker Ghimpu

MP Victor Stepaniuc, vice president of the United Moldova Party, suggested the members of the Alliance for European Integration should elect Serafim Urecheanu, the current senior deputy speaker, to be the head of Parliament in Mihai Ghimpu’s stead. The proposal was made at the end of the Parliament’s meeting on Thursday, which was chaired by Urecheanu as Ghimpu was on a visit to Poland, Info-Prim Neo reports. Victor Stepaniuc argued that Serafim Urecheanu was a good candidate for the post of Speaker because he chaired today’s meeting “in an effective, operative, civilized, respectful manner and with much competence” and could be considered as a model speaker. But Urecheanu didn’t seem enchanted by the praise. “I won’t let myself duped by flattery, because when you receive praise, you should also think about the reasons for that praise”. At the same time, he commanded the deputies for their effective work and for managing to adopt as many as 50 laws. Speaker and concurrently acting president Mihai Ghimpu is participating today in festivities dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the Grunwald battle, and is expected to return tomorrow in time to chair the Parliament’s meeting starting 10:00.
