Stepan Dimitrov wins bronze at European Taekwondo Championships

Stepan Dimitrov has won a bronze medal at the European Taekwondo Championships in the Olympic weight categories that are taking place in Sarajevo, IPN reports.

He scored two victories in the 58 kg weight class, eliminating wrestlers from Turkey and Croatia. In the semifinal, Stepan lost only to Serbia’s Novak Stanic, climbing on to the winner’s rostrum the day he turned 25. His twin brother Vadim Dimitrov ranked ninth in the same weight class.

Also, Andrei Balan ranked fifth, while Tatiana Țîmbalari finished ninth at the competition in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The taekwondo athletes of Moldova are to compete for qualification for the Tokyo Olympic Games. The European qualifying tournament will take place in Sofia during January 30-31.
