Stela Jantuan: PPPDA’s tactic leads to self-destruction

The motion of no confidence against the Cabinet led by Ion Chicu failed and the failure was evident from the start. According to former MP Stela Jantuan, the end result of the vote of no confidence held in Parliament on July 20 had been known since the moment the intention was to remove the current Government and to appoint another Government with the help of the MPs of the Shor Party, IPN reports.

“They pursued one goal – to improve the rating of the leader of the PPPDA. Polls show that the rating declined considerably. Look what happened as a result of this badly-thought-out plan. This vote against the Government ultimately failed and I hope the PPPDA got a vaccine against the Moldovan COVID and will realize that they cannot sit at the negotiating table and ask for a vote without conditionality elements. This is a tactic that leads to self-destruction,” Stela Jantuan stated in the program “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel.

She noted the math of the vote of no confidence against the Government led by Ion Chicu was based on the vote of the MPs of the Shor Party, while those from the PAS, under political pressure and the pressure of the affiliated press, signed the motion.

Political analyst Corneliu Ciurea said the failure of the no confidence motion affected first of all the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” as it insisted too much on the Government’s dismissal.

“The question is, did they lose or not? Indeed, out of the whole opposition, the PPPDA wanted a change in the situation the most. They also banked on the geopolitical assistance of neighbors and planned everything rather seriously. They would have managed to remove the Government if they had found oscillating MPs last weekend. The game was well worth playing,” stated Corneliu Ciurea.

The motion of no confidence against the Government, registered by the MPs of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”, could not be adopted by a majority of votes in the July 20 sitting of Parliament. Only 46 MPs voted in favor at a time when the motion is carried with a minimum of 51 votes.
