Ștefan Gațcan vacates seat of MP one day after joining Pro Moldova group

Ștefan Gațcan renounced the seat of MP one day after announcing his decision to defect from the Socialist parliamentary group to the Pro Moldova parliamentary group. His resignation was registered with the Parliament’s Secretariat on July 1, IPN reports.

The Party of Socialists also issued a press release, saying Ștefan Gațcan remains part of the PSRM’s team and will be actively engaged in the work of the party’s social group so that he uses his professional experience in drafting bills related to the health policies.

Ștefan Gațcan was elected MP in constituency No. 38 Hâncești, where he ran on behalf of the PSRM, on March 15 this year.

On June 30, Ștefan Gațcan announced his decision to defect from the Socialist parliamentary group to the Pro Moldova group. In a press briefing, he said his decision was a personal one and wasn’t influenced by anyone. He urged his former colleagues not to launch attacks on him, his relatives and friends in order to make him change his mind. On his Facebook page, he wrote that the interminable political struggles, serious management mistakes, unprofessional decisions, lack of courage and even acceptance of fakes in the management of the COVID-19 crisis made him distance himself from those actions.

An IPN reporter called him, but Ștefan Gațcan was unavailable for comment.
