The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) took legal action based on the complaint filed by MP Ștefan Gațcan and the application submitted by the Pro Moldova Party so as to determine all the circumstances of this case, IPN reports.

The PGO noted that MP Ștefan Gațcan’s complaint about the alleged pressure and intimidation exerted by particular persons on him to make him vacate the seat of MP came on July 2.

The criminal case was started based on Article 274 of the Penal Procedure Code and the prosecutors are to carry out a series of investigations to determine if there are reasonable suspicions about the existence of constitutive elements of an offense in the acts of those involved.

Ștefan Gațcan was elected MP in constituency No. 38 Hâncești, where he ran on behalf of the PSRM, on March 15 this year. On June 30, Ștefan Gațcan announced his decision to defect from the Socialist parliamentary group to the Pro Moldova group. In a press briefing, he said his decision was a personal one and wasn’t influenced by anyone. He urged his former colleagues not to launch attacks on him, his relatives and friends in order to make him change his mind.

On his Facebook page, he wrote that the interminable political struggles, serious management mistakes, unprofessional decisions, lack of courage and even acceptance of fakes in the management of the COVID-19 crisis made him distance himself from those actions.

In only one day, on July 1, Ștefan Gațcan handed over his resignation from the post of MP. The Party of Socialists issued a press release, saying Ștefan Gațcan remains part of the PSRM’s team and will be actively engaged in the work of the party’s social group so that he uses his professional experience in drafting bills related to the health policies. Pro Moldova said the MP was abducted.
