Status and role of People’s Ombudsman set

The Cabinet approved a bill to supplement the article concerning the People’s Ombudsman from the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

At practical level, it is a new chapter added to the Constitution, by which the status and role of the People’s Ombudsman and the method of naming and dismissing this by Parliament are regulated.

The provisions included in the chapter specify the mission, immunities and guarantees as well as aspects of the independence and incompatibility of the People’s Ombudsman with other posts.

The bill is aimed at adjusting the national legislation to the international one, based on the recommendations of the Venice Commission, so as to ensure the independence of the People’s Ombudsman.

The document will be submitted to the Constitutional Court for appraisal and will be then presented to Parliament for examination and adoption.
