The discussions focusing on the formation of a new pro-European alliance held on October 30 were constructive and the meeting represented a starting point, the representatives of the Democratic Party (PDM) and the Liberal Party (PL) and unaffiliated MP Iurie Leanca said after the meeting. The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) didn’t delegate representatives to take part in the negotiations, IPN reports.
Iurie Leanca said that he sees no viable solutions without the participation of the PLDM in forming a pro-European alliance. He voiced hope that the Lib-Dems will calmly analyze the situation and will accept to go further.
The leader of the PDM Marian Lupu said that this discussion was absolutely necessary and at the current stage was a constructive one. They discussed how the future government should work and possibilities of restoring the relations with the development partners, of remedying the economic situation, of creating a ministry responsible for the European integration and of designating a Deputy Prime Minister responsible for this area. As to the absence of the Lib-Dems from the discussions, Lupu said he respects their decision and will reiterate the invitation to the negotiations for all the possible participants, including the PLDM.
The Liberals’ leader Mihai Ghimpu said those who took part in the meeting kept the old positions, namely that they support the European course and want a new ruling alliance and a government to be formed as soon as possible. He voiced hope that the PLDM will join them at the negotiations after November 1, when the Lib-Dems will meet to take a decision.
The three parties of the government coalition - the PLDM, PDM and PL – no longer form a parliamentary majority after Liberal-Democratic MP Vlad Filat was arrested. The Cabinet headed by Lib-Dem Valeriu Strelet was dismissed by Parliament based on allegations of corruption on October 29.
