Statement on strengthening of Moldovan-Romanian strategic partnership adopted in Chisinau

A common Statement between the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis sand the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, which is designed to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two states, was adopted in Chisinau on December 29, IPN reports.

According to Klaus Iohannis, the Statement reaffirms the special bilateral relationship on the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Strategic Partnership for the European Integration of the Republic of Moldova and Moldova’s commitment to follow the European path and to do the democratic reforms needed in this regard.

“I’m confident that the taking of the presidential office by Missis Sandu will represent the starting point in the extension of the bilateral cooperation in the spirit of the European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova, which would lead to its asserting as a modern, European and democratic state, in compliance with the legitimate expectations of its citizens,” stated Klaus Iohannis.

For her part, Maia Sandu said that by the common Statement adopted today, Moldova stated its determination to expand the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Romania and to act together for achieving the common objectives.

In the name of the Moldovan citizens, Maia Sandu thanked for the support offered by Romania during almost three decades and also during the past year marked by the pandemic. In the immediate period, Moldova will have to also deal with the effects of the economic crisis and, in this respect, it banks on Romania’s support at bilateral level and through the important voice of Romania in the adoption by the EU of decisions on Moldova.

Klaus Iohannis is the first President who visited Moldova after the investiture of Maia Sandu.
