State will cover cost of prostheses for reconstructing breast after cancer

The state will guarantee minimum free medical insurance for covering the cost of prostheses for reconstructing the breast as a result of breast cancer. Parliament adopted a relevant bill at the suggestion of Liberal-Democratic MP Liliana Palihovici, IPN reports.

Breast neoplasm is annually detected in about 900 women in Moldova. Of them, about 600 sustain mastectomy.

Liliana Paliovici said this bill is very important because the life of a woman who survived breast cancer must be as active as before this disease and free from discomfort and complexes. “The health-related expenses are not only a cost, but also an investment that will help to ensure appropriate health for the future generations,” she stated.

The bill also suggests providing full medical dental assistance to children under the age of 12. Currently, this assistance is offered to children only in emergencies. The MP said the dental diseases pose a threat to children’s health.

The bill is to be passed in the second reading.
