The State University of Moldova (USM) celebrates 70 years of work. In a solemn meeting of the University’s Senate, Rector Gheorghe Ciocanu said the USM has always aimed to educate and train the young generation for work in all the areas of the national economy. He named USM a promoter of the values of education and training, IPN reports.
“It is a very young age when we speak about an education establishment, but when we refer to people, we speak about classes of teachers, remarkable personalities who trained generations of qualified specialists. For their part, the latter ones are obliged to ensure continuity,” stated Gheorghe Ciocanu.
The rector said the professors have the important duty of continuously transforming the USM into a modern, dynamic, useful, attractive institution with European visibility, where the European integration course takes healthy roots. “They will now grow in the most fertile and valuable system – of education, research and innovation,” he said.
First Deputy Prime Minister for Social Matters Gheorghe Brega said the USM manifested itself as an education institution with incontestable merits in training highly-qualified specialists for different sectors of the Moldovan economy.
USM Doctor Honoris Causa Maria Ardeleanu from Romania said the cooperation between Moldova and Romania is based on the partnerships in scientific research between the two states and this fact is stated and recognized in the Romanian area. “It is our role, of the researchers, who already became involved in various areas, to introduce the culture of scientific research in universities as this automatically leads to a rise in the level of education to which we all aspire,” stated Maria Ardeleanu, adding that the responsibility of the researchers is to ensure ties between society and search results that seem inaccessible to the public.
The State University of Moldova was founded on October 1, 1946 with the initial name of the State University of Chisinau.
