The State will allocate 20 million lei to the Moldsilva Forestry Agency to expand forestland on an 8,500ha area this fall. In addition, the funds are to be used to liquidate the consequences of drought that affected recently planted trees and bushes. PM Vasile Tarlev stated that the drought affected equally the country’s fauna and flora, especially the recently planted areas. In his words, the Government has to take measures to redress the situation, even if it is short of funds. The Ministry of Finance has been tasked to look for financing sources, because, says the prime minister, the Government Reserve Fund doesn’t have enough money to cover entirely the financing promised to Moldsilva. Forests cover less than 10 percent of the country’s territory.
