State-of-the-art obstetrical and gynecological equipment arrived in Moldova with the support of UNFPA Moldova. It will be distributed to nine medical institutions, including the Mother and Child Institute, UNFPA Moldova said in a press release.
Today the Institute received modern operating lights and tables, anesthetic machines and equipment for monitoring vital signs of during childbirth.
According to Sergiu Gladun, director of the Mother and Child Institute, the hospital still operates pieces of equipment that it got with its inauguration in 1982. The equipment received today is very important for safe deliveries, he stressed. “We received the monitors for intrauterine surveillance and I am sure that this equipment is very important and vital for us”, stated Sergiu Gladun.
The value of the equipment purchased for the Mother and Child Institute is 525,000 US dollars.
Apart from the provision of resuscitation equipment, medical institutions receive auxiliary equipment that improves the quality of medical services and saves precious time in emergency cases.
The equipment was purchased by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) Moldova, with the financial support of the Government of the United States of America, to cover the needs of women in the Republic of Moldova and refugees from Ukraine. The total value of the equipment is 1.8 million US dollars.
During the next two months, UNFPA will fully equip 22 delivery rooms in maternity hospitals in Balti, Cahul, Edineț, Ceadîr-Lunga, Comrat, Chisinau.
