State of public health emergency extended, some of restrictions reviewed

The state of public health emergency was extended nationwide in Moldova until April 15 inclusive. A series of measures agreed earlier were adjusted now that the number of cases of COVID-19 decreased considerably, IPN reports.

According to the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission, the wearing of protective masks as from March 16 will be mandatory only in public transport, health facilities, placement centers, retail outlets, shopping centers and drugstores. It is yet recommended continuing wearing masks in open public places, especially in crowded ones.

The obligation to present a COVID certificate when entering closed places was removed. All the private events, such as wedding parties and christening ceremonies, will be held without a limitation on the number of invitees or spectators.

The limitations on the number of customers in public eating places, theaters, cinemas, concert halls, sports centers or recreational areas were also removed. The large-scale events in the open air, such as festivals and sports competition, can be held without any restriction as to the number of spectators.

Also, the Moldovans and foreign citizens will be able to enter Moldova without presenting a COVID-19 certificate.

All the relaxations take effect on March 16.

Moldova by March 14 got over 508,000 cases of the novel coronavirus. The death toll from COVID-19 rose to 11,357.
