The state of the national roads will continue to worsen if the medium-term and capital repair works are not resumed, Andrei Cuculescu, ex-director of the State Road Administration, stated in the talk show “Black Box” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.
He said the state of the national roads improved until 2015, but after 2015 this has worsened annually, according to official State Road Administration reports. “The state of the national roads will continue to worsen if the medium-term and capital repair works are not resumed. The holes should not be stopped up only. Upper layer rehabilitation and treatment works are needed and holes will thus not appear during four-five years,” statedAndrei Cuculescu.
He noted that the over 1 billion lei that was to be allocated for the repair of national and local roads wasn’t earmarked in the Road Fund this year. “Not only the national roads, but also the local roads suffer as a result. When the money in the Road Fund is distributed, 25% of this sum goes to repair roads in districts,” said Andrei Cuculescu, adding that 357 million lei instead of 500 million lei has been allotted for the repair of local roads this year.
As to the project to repair 1,200 km of roads all over the country announced by the government, mayor of Cimislia town Gheorghe Railean said these roads should be repaired according to well-defined projects. “The Road Fund money should be distributed equitable, by respecting the principle of local self-government, and the whole sum collected from vehicle owners as taxes should be used to repair local roads,” he stated.
The government earlier announced that over 1,200 km of road sections in more than 1,000 communities will be rehabilitated as part of a project this year.
