The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova is to be extended for another 60 days as from December 6. A draft decision to this effect was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.
Minister of Home Affairs Ana Revenco said the proposal to extend the state of emergency is based on the report presented by the Commission for Exceptional Situations, which convened today. “The state of emergency needs to be extended primarily due to the intensifying risks that directly threaten national security in terms of provision with energy resources during the 2022-2023 cold period and in terms of public order and security and border security,” stated the official, noting Russia’s attacks against Ukraine directly affects Moldova given that its electricity system is very vulnerable.
The decision is to be adopted by Parliament. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița said that she will attend the December 1 sitting of Parliament.
Declared first on February 24, 2022, together with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the state of emergency has been extended fort several times, the last time on October 6.
