State of emergency declared in Transnistrian area
Because of the flood danger, the Tiraspol authorities have declared the state of emergency in the area. The activity of the security bodies in the area, the civil protection squads have been ordered to work permanently, as the areas close to dams are being patrolled, Info-Prim Neo's correspondent in the area reports .
In Novodnestrovsk, the speed of the pouring water is 4,000 cubic meters a second, while the pool at Dubasari, lower on the river, releases not more than 2,500 cubic meters. According to the manager of the power plant at Dubasari, Boris Gherman, the waster may flood several villages on the Nistru's banks. In the villages of Lunga and Dzerzhinskoye the waster may cover 85% and respectively 70%.
According to the Civil Protection Department, Vladimir Slobodeniuk, the prportion of a possible natural disaster cannot be exactly assessed now. The depth of the Nistru has reduced considerably the last years. “The state of emergency was declared in Dubasari,” he says. Because of the floods, according to preliminary forecasts, as m,any as 4,000 Transnistrian people may be evacuated.
In Transnistria, all the children from summer camps were evacuated. Rescuing detachments patrol the towns ands villages under the risk of flooding. The local authorities updated their plans of evacuating people in case of floods.
In the evening of July 27, the most critical situation was recorded in the village of Caragas, Slobozia district. The level of the water in the Nistru exceeded the dam. The local authorities allocated an equivalent of 2.7 Moldovan lei to administer the irrigation system in Tiraspol, to strengthen the dam, but the money has not reached the target as yet.
