State of emergency could be declared in Moldova

Prime Minister Ion Chicu will convoke the Commission for Exceptional Situations so that this is considering the opportunity of declaring a state of emergency, given the epidemiological situation in the country, IPN reports.

“Judging by the developments, conditions appear for declaring this state of emergency that will enable the Government and the competent state authorities to mobilize a number of resources and act forcefully in all the areas to combat this pandemic,” Premier Chicu stated after a meeting with the senior state officials.

If the Commission for Exceptional Situations decides that a state of emergency should be declared, the Premier will immediately call a meeting of the Government so that this approves the decision and requests Parliament to declare a state of emergency.

Under Article 66 of Moldova’s Constitution, only Parliament can declare a state of emergency, siege or war in the country.
