State of emergency between party interests and serious health crisis

The MPs exchanged harsh replies following the declaring of the state of emergency. While the PAS accuses the PSRM of declaring the state of emergency for delaying the dissolution of Parliament, the Socialists say they did it on the recommendation of President Maia Sandu, who asked to declare a state of emergency after the meeting of the Supreme Security Council. The MPs of the PPPDA and PDM consider the country became hostage to the two parties, the PAS and PSRM, which are in a war, IPN reports.

The MPs continue to accuse each other of inability to assume responsibility for the pandemic crisis. The MPs of the PAS noted the Government‘s request to declare a state of emergency was inappropriate in the absence of a concrete plan of anti-crisis measures.

“We were witnesses to a show. They told us in nice words about the saving of people’s lives. Accidentally or not, the Constitution does not allow dissolving Parliament during the state of emergency. Out of the wish to keep the current Parliament, they proposed declaring the state of emergency for 60 days,” PAS MP Sergiu Litvinenco stated in the talk show “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel.

For their part, the Socialists shift the responsibility onto President Maia Sandu, who prevented the investing of a professional Government able to manage the pandemic situation, as they said.

“The responsibility for the fact that we do not have a Government that would appropriately manage the situation is borne by the President as Maia Sandu demanded that the Chicu Government should resign and during three months has tried to dissolve Parliament,” said Sociologist MP Vasile Bolea.

The Democrats said the current situation in the country is due to the confrontation between the PAS and PSRM, which subdued the country to their political interests.

“We lag much behind. We all know what measures were taken by the civilized countries. We have witnessed a continuous rise in infections since the end of January. I stayed at the Republic Hospital two weeks ago and this was dull. In our country, these restrictive measures are influenced by the political interests of two players, the PAS and PSRM, which cannot come to terms,” said PDM MP Dumitru Diacov.

The MPs of the PPPDA noted the state of emergency will not have the expected result in the absence of a plenipotentiary Government that would unlock foreign assistance.

“This Government, which is the progenitor of the Chicu Government, wasn’t ready to assume responsibilities and to come up with a sufficiently clear action plan. What’s happening now oscillates between a farce and full responsibility. Financing from the public budget should be provided for managing the situation. We proposed investing a Government with full powers for handling the crisis,” said PPPDA MP Igor Munteanu.

Parliament on March 31 declared a state of emergency in Moldova until May 30. The decision was adopted by the MPs of the PSRM and For Moldova Platform that includes the MPs of the Shor Party.
