State of early alert to be instituted on gas market

The Ministry of Energy initiates the procedure for declaring the state of early alert on the natural gas market. The decision was taken at the proposal of the operator of the natural gas transmission system LLC “Vestmoldtransgaz” in connection with the information received from the Ukrainian operator about the situation at the Sudja gas metering station in the Russian Federation, IPN reports.

Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov summoned representatives of the enterprises operating in the sector and examined relevant institutions’ reports on the operational situation in the energy sector, including the potential risks and their management protocols. Based on the data provided by the companies, it was ascertained that the conditions for declaring a state of early alert on the natural gas market were met. Consequently, the Ministry will today notify the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, which within 12 hours will convene a meeting of the Commission for Emergency Situations to examine the proposal.

The minister stressed that, after two and a half years of war, the gas system in the region is operating relatively normally, which shows that Ukraine and the Russian Federation treat the gas infrastructure with the utmost attention.

“At the moment, there is no imminent risk of stopping the gas supply to the left bank, but we need time to react, to manage the situation if something intervenes. There are things that do not depend on us and that we cannot control, in localities where military operations take place. So, we must be prepared for any scenario,” said Victor Parlicov

According to operators’ data, natural gas is delivered through Ukraine to the Transnistrian region as usual. At the same time, there are sufficient gas volumes for the needs of the right bank of the Nistru, including security supplies and volumes bought by market operators.

Russian Telegram channels recently announced that Ukrainian troops entered Russia’s Kursk region and occupied a number of localities. The Sudja gas metering station, through which Russian gas is delivered to Europe, is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
