The state is to pay over 1.6 million lei damages to former MP Iurie Bolboceanu following the illegal actions of the criminal investigation bodies of the prosecutor’s office and the courts. This was ordered by the Centru Court of Chisinau City after the former parliamentarian sued the Ministry of Justice, IPN reports.

The court partially accepted the complaint filed against the Ministry of Justice, with the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, and the National Administration of Penitentiaries being the ancillary interveners.

According to the sentence, 1.6 million lei is to be paid by the state in respect of non-pecuniary damages and 37,000 lei in respect of pecuniary damages.

The judgement can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeals within 30 days of the day it is pronounced.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, representatives of the Information and Media Communication Service of the Ministry of Justice said that the court’s decision will be appealed.
