State might monitor investment projects in housebuilding

The companies constructing 50 of the 270 unfinished apartment buildings have not fulfilled their contractual obligations towards the people who invested money in housebuilding, Minister of Regional Development and Construction Marcel Raducan said, when asked by the press to give details about the meeting centering on the issue that was held at the Government. “There was created a working group led by Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazar. It will analyze the situation and propose solutions for every unfinished building. The anticorruption center was also asked to intervene and carry out inspections. But the aim is not to punish somebody, but to help the people who paid money to receive apartments,” said the minister. Marcel Raducan also said that the state cannot assume responsibility for the unfinished building as it would mean administrative intervention in the work of private companies. However, Moldova could learn from the experience of other countries and implement relevant measures, like creating a legal body that would monitor how the money invested in housebuilding is used, if the deadlines are observed and other aspects. “All the companies that purchase a plot of land erect apartment buildings in Moldova. The people who invest money in housebuilding do not inquire first if these companies have the necessary equipment and skilled personnel,” said the minster, adding the people will be informed about the proposals that will be accepted and the decisions that the Government will take.
