President Maia Sandu said the State Flag reminds of unity and in 2023 it can be carried with pride and unrestrictedly, anywhere and at any time. “Today we honor the tricolor, the state flag of our country with which we regained independence, freedom and sovereignty, the right to choose by ourselves the path we want to follow,” the official stated in the ceremony held in connection with the State Flag Day, IPN reports.
Maia Sandu noted that the tricolor was the symbol of the National Liberation Movement. “It united us by flower bridges and through resistance after tens of years of Soviet occupation and denationalization. Three decades ago, when our people struggled to regain the national identity, the tricolor was an authentic symbol of courage, dignity, freedom and our future,” stated the official.
She noted that regardless of the political color, now more than ever we need unity under the colors of the tricolor. “Let’s work together hand in hand to build a thriving, safe and European Moldova of which we will be proud unconditionally. Long live state flag, long live the Republic of Moldova!” stated President Sandu.
The ceremony was staged in front of the Government Building and involved the Guard of Honor. The solemn hoisting of the flag was attended by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
The tricolor was designated the state flag on April 27, 1990. The colors are placed vertically, starting from the lance – blue, yellow, red. The coat of arms of the Republic of Moldova is imprinted in the center, on the yellow strip.
The celebration of the State Flag was decided in 2010.
