State flag and anthem forbidden at Last Bell Ring in Corjova
The Last Bell Ring festivities for the students of the Corjova secondary school may take place without honoring the state symbols of Moldova. The school’s head Constantin Sucitu told Info-Prim Neo that at the insistence of the Transnistrian militia, he signed a statement whereby he pledged not to hoist the flag and play the anthem of Moldova.
Constantin Sucitu said that representatives of the Transnistrian militia on May 23 summoned him to the militia station in Dubasari to sign the statement. He stated that the Transnistrian schools that are controlled by the Ministry of Education of Moldova have been banned from honoring Moldova’s symbols on September 1 and May 31 during several years.
”They consider that it is a foreign state and we should not respect these symbols. They force us to sign statements and promise we will not hold meetings, elections, public events. They tell us that these are the rules and we must obey them. If I break the rules, they can try me. Our mayor was put under arrest for seven days on March 2. The judge passed judgment in half an hour in the absence of the lawyer,” said Constantin Sucitu.
He also said that the head of the local “Mihai Eminescu” high school was also called to sign a similar statement. “This is a stupidity. The Moldovan community in Canada has a school there and the Canadian authorities allowed them to play the anthem and raise the flag of Moldova. In our own country, we cannot do it. The Transnistrian administration says that this land does not belong to us,” he stated.
Constantin Sucitu said that over 20 Transnistrian militiamen attended the school year opening festivities at the secondary school in Corjova on September 1, 2010. Though Moldova’s flag was hoisted, he ultimately had to take it away and hide it in his office.
”We will try to do something, but they will come and destroy everything. There will be about 10 vehicles of the Transnistrian militia in the morning. The representatives of our police do not intervene as they will provoke altercations,” said the school head.
Constantin Sucitu also said that he asked the Ministry of Education of Moldova to advise them what to do as regards the honoring of Moldova’s symbols, but have not received an answer.
