“Star of Romania” conferred on “Ilascu group” prisoners

Romanian president Traian Basescu conferred on Wednesday, June 13, the National Order “Star of Romania” on Alexandru Lesco, Andrei Ivantoc and Tudor Petrov Popa, the last ones of the so-called “Ilascu group”. They were recently set free by the authorities of Transnistria. According to a press release of the Presidential Administration, the head of the Romanian state signed on Wednesday the decree on conferring the “Star of Romania” to those three Romanian patriots “for patriotism, heroism and strength”. In 1994 the Romanian Patriarch awarded the Patriarchal Cross to the three heroes from Nistru, the highest distinction conferred by the Romanian Orthodox Church on laymen. At the same time, the Government from Bucharest offered a long vacation in Romania for rehabilitation and rest. At the same time, the press in Chisinau wrote, quoting those two political prisoners of the separatist regime, who were recently set free that “no one from the leadership of Moldova, the state for which they have fought and for which they have lost the best years of their lives, called them to ask about their health”.
