Stands with alcoholic drinks commercials banned in Chisinau
The City Hall of Chisinau has decided to remove all stands that promote alcoholic drinks and have an “indecent message” until the holidays from the end of august.
At a meeting in the City Council of the Direction of Architecture and Urbanism on Monday, August 21, the interim mayor, Vasile Ursu, has requested that all such stands should be removed until August 24. According to Ursu, the beverages commercials could be replaced with social messages, such as: 570 years since Chisinau was mentioned for the first time in an official document or The Independence Day of Republic of Moldova.
In the future, a special committee from the City Council will approve the installation of the commercial on the stands, and this committee will have the right to reject the advertisement if it feels it “could alter the morale of the society”, stated Ursu.
“I’ve been to Turkey and Poland, but nowhere have I seen such aberrations as in Chisinau” stated the mayor. According to him, there are few commercial stands in these countries, and the existing ones are destined to food or industrial products.
The main architect of Chisinau, Nicon Zaporojan, has declared for the press that until now several stands were stripped of the commercials and the last 18 remain. He also stated that the local authorities have decided to reconsider the prices and the mechanism of mounting of the stands, because current prices are exceedingly low. As an example, he stated that a square cm of commercials in Iasi costs EUR 10, while in Chisinau the price is MDL 1.
