The members of the Sports Press Association of Moldova (APSM) have chosen Stepan Dimitrov as the Best Sportsperson of 2014. The athlete became European champion at WTF-style taekwondo, IPN reports.
Dimitrov bested Mihail Sava to the APSM award, although the latter was named Sportsperson of the Year by the Ministry of Youth and Sports just days before.
APSM's top 10 is completed by Victor Ciobanu, who won the silver medal at the European championships in Greco-Roman wrestling, Artur Ionita, footballer at Hellas Verona, tennis player Radu Albot, boxer Veaceslav Gojan, weightlifter Serghei Cechir, taekwondo fighter Vladislav Arventi, wrestler Natalia Budu and table tennis player Andrei Putuntica.
The men's tennis national team was named the Team of Year and the duo Ruslan Bodisteanu – Nicolae Oriol shared the award for the Best Coach.
