Sports club president suspected of bribery
The president of the Moldovan sports club “Rapid” is suspected of bribery and document falsification. If found guilty, he risks up to 10 years in prison.
According to the information from Department of Fraud Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspect falsified documents for the persons who wanted to work abroad by pretending to be Moldovan sportsmen going abroad to different contests and competitions.
The suspect was caught by police right in his office, at the moment when he was receiving 3.7 thousand EUR from a citizen for obtaining a Schengen visa. Previously, the president of “Rapid” received a folder of false documents from one of the solicitors that were submitted to the Dutch Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine.
The police suspect that the man was performing these illegal operations together with other members of the club. In his office the police found and confiscated 25 passports, false identity cards and other falsified official documents.
According to the police, from the beginning of this year the suspect organised illegal departures for approximately 50 persons, with an income of 138 thousand euros.
