Sports are not devoted enough attention, said Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc, noting next year the Ministry aims to do more on this segment. In a news conference held to presented the accomplishments of 2018, the minister said the state financing policies should be developed, including those on sports infrastructure, IPN reports.
To make progress in the field of sports, a law was adopted in 2018 to offer monthly lifetime allowances to trainers whose pupils medaled at the Olympic Games, world or European championships. The monthly scholarship paid to 83 professional athletes was raised by 35% and the annual awards for accomplishments in sports were increased by 50%.
Next year the Ministry aims to obtain as many qualification tickets for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as possible, to stage national and international sports events in Moldova, to train the national squads for international sports competitions and to revitalize the national Spartakiads between secondary school, college and lyceum students.
As to research and invitation, one of the mentioned results was the modification of the organizational infrastructure for managing research and innovation and the mechanism for financing this in accordance with the principles applied at European level. “The Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova, which is the most prestigious research and development institution in Moldova, continues to work, but we should understand that the financing of research in Moldova should depend on the achievements of researchers and on the priorities they set in their research projects, which should prove their vitality for the sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova and this financing should be obtained based on correctly judged contests,” stated the minister.
Among the accomplishments in the field of culture were the approval of the regulations of the Mobile National Heritage Register and of the regulations on the Register of Museums, the holding of such important cultural events as the International Opera and Ballet Festival “Maria Bieșu”, the Reunion of National Theaters, the Open-Air Festival of Classical Music “descOperă” and others.
