Spoiled peas at kindergartens, after horse meat

About 30,000 jars with spoiled peas were to be taken to kindergartens in the suburban settlements of the municipality of Chisinau and the municipal carabineer troops, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC), the supplier bought the peas from the producer CAP Basarabia. During searches, the officers found over 27,000 jars of peas in the supplier's storehouse. The production year indicated on them was 2009. In fact, the peas were preserved in 2007 and could be eaten by February 2010. The jars were to be conveyed to kindergartens in Vadul lui Voda, Budesti, Durlesti and the carabineer troops. The supplier said it did not know the products were old. Jars of peas and tomato sauce without labels and without documents or origin, to the value of about 140,000 lei, were discovered in the storehouse of CAP Basarabia during stocktaking. The company faces a fine of up to 2,000 lei and confiscation of the goods. On September 9, after a parent filed a complaint, officers of the CCCEC inspected the kindergarten “Foisor” situated in Chisinau's Ciocana district. There was a car with two sacks of meat and other food products in the yard. It was established that the car supplied over 200 kg of meat to the kindergartens working in Ciocana during one day. Nine of ten samples of meat turned out to be horse meat, not beef as written in the invoice.
