Writer Spiridon Vangheli on June 14 celebrates his 85th birthday. On this occasion, the branch of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” housed by the Theater “Licurici” staged an anniversary performance entitled “The child lives in my soul”. Also today, Spiridon Vangheli launched a new book titled “Craita” (“Queen”) on which he had worked for a year and a half. The writer said it was worth the effort as by this book he also fulfilled his obligation towards girls, IPN reports.
“I wrote a lot about boys and owed a debt to the girls and I therefore wrote “Craita”. I thus thank the girls who cautioned me not to be lazy and to write a book for them too. I thank the children for sending letters to me. I have thousands of letters from children. They didn’t leave me alone and motivated me to write,” stated Spiridon Vangheli.
He announced that he plans to publish two more books. “I received a letter from a boy who wrote: “You turned small for us to grow up”. The most important thing for a writer is not to lag behind children and to rise up to the children’s wisdom as the children are phenomenally wise,” he said.
Spiridon Vangheli was congratulated by writers and by children of the Secondary School No. 7, Primary School “Antonin Ursu”, Lyceums “Gh. Asachi” and “George Meniuc”, who presented famous characters from Spiridon Vangheli’s works on the stage and sang songs based on poems written by Grigore Vieru.
The National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” also mounted a broad exhibition of books entitled “I write about and for the child from my soul”. This will include translations of Vangheli’s works in a number of languages.
This year, Vangheli’s famous character Guguta turns 50.
