The football team Spicul Chiscareni didn’t manage to qualify for the quarterfinals of Moldova’s Cup. The Division A leader was leading Academia 2-0, but was beaten in the penalty shootout, IPN reports.
Molla and Luca scored in the first 15 minutes, but the elimination of Cheltuiala thwarted the plans of the hosts. Pashchenko transformed a penalty in the 56th minute, while Popovici tied nine minutes later. In the penalty shootout, Academia, which was recently taken over by coach Vlad Goian, won by 5-3.
“I congratulate my team as they had a good play. We will compete further in the championship and will struggle to earn promotion to the top echelon,” Spicul coach Constantin Arbanas told a news conference.
Another three matches of the 1/8 finals ended as follows: Intersport - Milsami 1-6, Zaria - Gagauzia 3-0, and Sheriff - Intersport-Aroma 8-1. The other four games are played on October 28.
