The drivers who go faster than allowed will be identified with the assistance of several types of speed radars that patrol inspectors will use on the national roads. New type radars that enable to measure the speed at night, in rain and fog have been bought recently. The new radars were presented in a public event on August 23, IPN reports.
Pavel Apostol, head of the Public Relations Service of the National Patrolling Inspectorate, said the radars of trap cars fix the speed in a static regime and the information is transmitted to a server. The drivers who speed receive notification letters at home.
Another type of radar enables to fix the speed in movement. These are installed in police cars. The radars can also measure the speed of vehicles coming from the opposite direction. The speeding drivers are stopped immediately and a report is drawn up in their name.
The third type of radar is the newest one and looks like a gun. Seven such radars were purchased at a cost of €15,000 each. The devices will be fixed inside cars and on stands. They measure the speed at a distance of up to 1,200 meters and can be used at night, in rain and fog.
Veaceslav Sârbu, head of the Inspectorate’s Legal Service, said the driver stopped by a police patrol can ask the inspector to present only their permits and no other documents. If one doubts the actions taken by police inspectors, the doubts can be specified in the report or the drivers can file a complaint to the General Police Inspectorate.
According to the data of the National Patrolling Inspectorate, the 1,361 road accidents that occurred in the first seven months of this year resulted in 145 deaths and over 1600 persons wounded. Most of the accidents were due to speeding.
