On the second day of the Chinese Film Week in Moldova, those who wanted could watch the historical drama “Flowers of War” that is about the Japanese-Chinese war of 1937-1945. At the end of the film, the spectators applauded delightedly. The event is organized by the Embassy of China in Chisinau.
A group of young people interviewed by IPN’s reporter said they understood how many tragedies the wars bring and how many victims they cause. The film was viewed by people of all ages and even by mothers with children.
The movie is based on the novel “13 Flowers of Nanjing” by Yan Geling. It is about 24 women - 12 young women who studied at a monastery in Nanjing and 12 prostitutes. The war made them gather together at the monastery. The main hero, whose part is played by U.S. actor Christian Bale, gets into the height of the war by chance and becomes the only person who can save the women. The film shows how the war transforms the people. A man interested only in money is ready to risk everything to save the women from rape and death, while the prostitutes sacrifice themselves in order to allow the girls from the monastery to escape.
