According to the amendments to legislation, the taxation of lottery and sports betting winnings over 240 lei shall be applied from January 1st, 2020, not from September 1st. Thus, all the lottery tickets and sports betting winnings, obtained until December 31, 2019, shall be paid in full, without the tax being collected from beneficiaries.
A press release of NGM Company, organizer of lottery and sports betting, mentions that another provision which caused confusion refers to imposing a tax on the commercial units that sell lottery tickets. The company states that the cancellation of the tax exemption for commercial units (local tax) shall also apply from January 1st, 2020, and not from September 1st, 2019, IPN reports.
The lottery in the Republic of Moldova is organized by NGM Company, the private partner of the National Lottery of Moldova. The company also holds authorization for games with online tickets and organization of sports betting.
The National Lottery has been operating in the current format since November 2018. So far, players have received winnings in the amount of over 250 million lei, while 12 Moldovans became millionaires.
