Specialists will examine all the poles situated along the Viaduct in Botanica district of Chisinau. The decision was taken after a trolleybus yesterday hooked a steel wire rope and pulled after it two power contact poles, IPN reports.
In the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services, Vitalie Mihalache, head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division, said the poles that collapsed were set up in the 1980s. Even if restoration works were performed, the metal on which the elements of the network were placed eroded away owing to the antiskid material and other aggressive substances. Immediately after the incident, the poles on the Viaduct were assessed visually, but today experts will inspect them thoroughly and will formulate proposals, including to replace them where necessary.
Mayor Ion Ceban said a project to modernize street lighting on Dacia Blvd is being implemented. There are about 30,000 poles in Chisinau. Most of them belong to the municipality, while one third of them to the power supplier. Each subdivision should examine the poles under their management and should submit proposals as to how to keep them or to replace the necessary one.
In the afternoon of January 9, a trolleybus hooked a steel wire rope with its front part when making a turn and pulled after it two power contact poles. As a result, the trolleybuses running on several routes were diverted onto other streets.
