Moldova’s pavilion at World Expo-2015 in Italy’s Milan will be built according to the model presented by the company Gorgona, which represents a peeled apple. The project became the winner of a contest launched in March, IPN reports.
The 12 finalist projects chosen out of 30 had been exhibited at Moldexpo between June 7 and June 9.
“Moldova is a great producer of fruit and vegetables and by this peeled apple we wanted to show the apple’s core, the special taste of our fruit, the fact that Moldova produces ecological fruit and vegetables that satisfy consumers’ demands, regardless of the destination market,” said Eugen Prodan, a representative of Gorgona.
The architects that designed the project were awarded 48,000 lei A contract to erect the pavilion will be signed with them. The construction works will start next year.
Moldova’s participation in Milan World Expo-2015 will cost about 30 million lei. The expenses will be covered partially from the state budget, partially from donations and other legal sources.
Moldova is at the third experience of the kind. Earlier, it took part in the exhibitions in Germany’s Hanover in 2000 and in China’s Shanghai in 2010. The theme chosen for the Milan Universal Exposition is “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. It will focus on the right to healthy, secure and sufficient food for all the world’s inhabitants.
The event set for May 1 – October 31, 2015 is considered one of the greatest in the world. The Expo 2015 site will occupy an area of about 1.7 million square meters. The exhibit will bring together 175 countries and is expected to be visited by 29 million people, as well as 1.5 billion people online. The world expos are held once in five years and last for six months.
