The special sitting of the legislative body, where the MPs were to give a vote of confidence to the Cabinet proposed by Ion Sturza, was attended by only 47 lawmakers of the 101. Therefore, a quorum was not present and the sitting could not be even opened, IPN reports.
Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said the special sitting cannot take place owing to the lack of quorum. Under the case law, when a quorum is not present or there is boycotting, the attempt to invest the Government is considered unsuccessful.
The legislation provides that the head of state must hold new consultations with the parliamentary groups to designate another candidate for the post of Prime Minister.
