Special screening of “Why me?” in Chisinau

The Romanian film “Why me?”, directed by Tudor Giurgiu, was shown in Chisinau on the occasion of the International Anticorruption Day that is marked on December 9, IPN reports.

The film tells the story of prosecutor Cristian Panait. The main character Emilian Oprea is a young idealist who is investigating the case of a colleague suspected of taking bribe, forgery and stealing of documents. But the investigation has implications at the upper level and makes the young prosecutor lose confidence in justice. The film is based on a real case that happened in Romania in 2000, when a prosecutor killed himself while investigating a case of alleged corruption.

The special screening of the film was attended by the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Romania and Moldova Stella Ronner-Grubacic. “From my viewpoint, the bringing of this film to Moldova is a natural continuation of all the efforts we made until now. The Embassy of the Netherlands supported activities related to the justice sector reform and the fight against corruption. I’m here also to assure you that the Netherlands is near Moldova in all its efforts to reform and modernize the judicial system,” said the diplomat.

After the screening, the spectators were able to discuss with the film’s director and with two anticorruption experts from Romania.

Earlier, the film “Why me?” was screened in Cahul, while today, December 10, it will be shown at the State University “Alecu Russo” in Balti, starting at 6pm. The film is shown with Russian subtitles, while entrance is free of charge.

The screening was organized by the Legal Resources Center of Moldova and Romania’s Expert Forum, with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands.
