The special school No. 12 that is situated in Chisinau’s Botanica district now has wheelchair access so that children with locomotor disabilities will be also able to study here, Info-Prim Neo reports. This is a school for children with hearing and speaking impairments. Several years ago, it became accessible to children with locomotor and associated disabilities too. The schools’ head Nina Rusu said that 16 children with multiple disabilities attend the school at present, but they do not need wheelchairs. “Owing to the wheelchair ramps that were built in about a month, those who couldn’t be admitted to the school until now will be able to come,” she stated. The project was implemented with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau and the U.S. Army European Command. “The U.S. Embassy has helped the special school No.12 for many years. This project is aimed at improving the conditions in Moldova’s schools. The project cost US$10 000,” said U.S. Ambassador in Chisinau William Moser. The school also implemented other projects supported by a number of organizations. It was outfitted with a computer room. A number of specialized rooms were also equipped. As many as 108 children now study at the special school No. 12. The program of study is the same as in secondary schools, but is adjusted to children’s particularities. In the first half of the day, the students go to classes, while in the afternoon have an extended program of activities, including dancing, plastic arts, handicrafts, informatics and sports.
