Special Representative of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on visit to Chisinau

The official Transnistrian conflict settlement talks remain suspended because some of the participants in the negotiations consider that a more favorable atmosphere should be created for continuing them, acting Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov said after a meeting with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Radojko Bogojevic, IPN reports.

The Moldovan official noted that the rules of holding these talks provide that no conditions can be imposed for continuing the negotiations. “We are discussing and making effort to settle a conflict. We cannot invoke particular elements of this conflict as conditions for continuing the talks. All the existing problems must become part of an agenda of discussions. We understand that there are contexts and influences and that we must make effort to achieve greater results,” stated Victor Osipov.

Ambassador Radojko Bogojevic said the large number of visits paid to Moldova show that the Transnistrian issue during the Serbian and Swiss Chairmanship of the OSCE was high on the list of priorities. “The goal of my visit is to prepare the ground for the next negotiations. The meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council will take place on December 2-4. It is very important to find possibilities to restart this process,” stated the official.

According to Victor Osipov, the Moldovan authorities are ready to continue the official talks in the 5+2 format. “We must admit that this format becomes increasingly improbable as the meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council is approaching and the timeframe for holding a new round of negotiations already closes,” stated the Acting Deputy Prime Minister.
