The court ruled that the former Head of the imaging and computed tomography department of the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center (CRDM) should pay a fine in the amount of 270 thousand lei, the damage of 1 million and 80 thousand lei caused to CRDM as well as be prohibited to hold management positions for a 12-year term. Also, according to a CNA press release, the court decided on the special confiscation of 1 million 482 thousand lei, IPN reports.
"In order to ensure the compensation for the damage, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency of the CNA applied seizures amounting to 7 217 000 lei which included cars, real estate, bank accounts and financial means in cash. The actions took place in two criminal cases initiated by the CNA and anti-corruption prosecutors for abuse of office and illicit enrichment”, the CNA statement says.
The former head of the imaging and computed tomography department of the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center was detained on July 30, 2018, in the "Tomography 1" case, following extensive searches.
According to the materials of the case, between January 2017 - July 2018, the former head of the department collected on constant basis from patients, including those who had medical insurance, amounts of money that varied between 950 and 5 400 lei for tomographic investigations. The money was not paid at the hospital's cash desk, except for sporadic cash amounts for less expensive investigations.
During searches at the convict’s residence, metal boxes rented from commercial banks, financial means in lei, euros and US dollars in the total amount of 6 568 982 lei have been also found and seized.
