The performance of the prosecution officers, police officers, prosecutors and judges responsible for punishing persons caught driving under the influence will be assessed by a special commission. In the opening of the April 23 meeting of the Government, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said he will order setting up an assessment commission that will include representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the National Anticorruption Center, the Ministry of Justice, and of the Prosecutor General’s Office, IPN reports.
“Even if statistics have improved, the traffic accidents continue to claim lives. This is a tragedy and it’s regretful that we must address such issues during the holidays,” said Iurie Leanca, adding that for the number of road accidents caused by inebriated drivers to go down, those to blame must be punished.
During a month, the commission will assess the performance of the responsible institutions. Afterward, decisions will be taken by the Government. “The list of those who do not make sure that the criminal cases started against inebriated drivers reach the court should be made public,” stated the Premier. He instructed the ICT minister to examine the methods of obtaining driver’s licenses.
