An 8.9 magnitude quake struck the northeast coast of Japan on March 11. More than 5,000 people are reported dead and several hundreds missing. About 15,000 homes are thought to have collapsed and 100,000 people will need to be relocated.
The central and local authorities of Moldova offered their condolences to the Japanese people and pledged to help them deal with the quake consequences.
