Speaker meets with IMF representatives

Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said the authorities are determined to ensure progress is made in the process of doing reforms and implementing the Association Agreement with the European Union. In a meeting with the IMF experts who are in Chisinau on a visit, the official said the authorities aim to ensure stability and accelerate the reforms, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, Andrian Candu and Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar, who heads the IMF team of experts, exchanged opinions about the current mission of the IMF delegation, which is a technical one to update on recent economic developments and discuss the authorities’ policies to maintain macroeconomic stability and improve governance.

The discussions also centered on the legislative priorities of the spring session that are aimed at ensuring the normative framework needed to improve the situation in the financial-banking sector, including to optimize the surveillance mechanisms in the area, and the procedure for holding the contest to select the candidate for governor of the National Bank of Moldova. The IMF experts welcomed the Parliament’s readiness to inform the public opinion about the contest to choose the governor.

According to the Speaker, authorities’ efforts are aimed at ensuring stability and accelerating the key reforms so as to regain the people’s and external partners’ confidence.

The IMF fact-finding mission will be in Chisinau until February 29.
