Speaker Grosu, PM Recean praise Ukraine’s courage and spirit on its Independence Day

For more than 500 days, the Ukrainian nation has been defending its freedom and independence with courage and dignity. The Republic of Moldova will stand by Ukraine and its brave people until victory is on its side, the Speaker of Moldova’s Parliament Igor Grosu declared in a congratulatory message on Ukraine’s Independence Day.

Igor Grosu noted that Moldova today enjoys peace thanks to the courage of the Ukrainian people. “We will continue to help Ukraine, because we all want to live in freedom and peace. We strongly condemn the Russian aggression in Ukraine and believe that Russia must immediately and unconditionally withdraw its troops from the national territory of Ukraine”, declared Grosu.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean, too, congratulated the Ukrainian nation, saying that “Ukraine’s strength is in its people, in their courage, and hope for a peaceful and prosperous future in a united Europe”.

“On the Independence Day of Ukraine, we honor the resistance and unshakable spirit of the Ukrainian people, who for 18 months fought bravely against Russia’s brutal aggression”, said the prime minister, adding that Ukrainians defend not only their freedom, but also the future of Europe. “Moldova and Ukraine have a common future in the great European family. The Republic of Moldova stands and will remain standing with Ukraine until victory”.

On 24 August 1991, the Supreme Rada of the then Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic adopted the Declaration of Independence from the USSR, marking the birth of present-day independent Ukraine.
