Speaker and leader of PLDM faction interpret Constitution differently
May 22 is the last day when the new MPs that hold other paid posts simultaneously can decide what post they want to keep. The first deputy speaker of Parliament Vladimir Turcan asked the legislators to inform the legal commission for appointments and immunities about their decisions in due time, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Turcan said that this does not apply to the MPs that work in the areas of science and education.
Vlad Filat, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), asked the first deputy speaker if this relates to the outgoing president Vladimir Voronin.
“This does not apply to the president,” Voronin intervened. In reply, Filat recommended him to consult the Constitution and take a decision: MP or outgoing head of state. Voronin thanked Filat ironically for his advice and said that he consulted the legislation long ago.
In accordance with the legislation, the person that was elected as MP but holds another post that is incompatible with the post of MP must choose the position they want to keep within 30 days of the validation of the election results
