Spain derailment victims do not include Moldovans

The Embassy of Moldova in Madrid has said that according to preliminary reports, no Moldovans are among the victims of the railway accident that happened in Santiago de Compostella, Spain, IPN has learned from the Foreign Ministry.

The local authorities initiated the specific procedures for identifying the dead and informing the relatives. The lists of victims will be made public after the data about all the identified persons is centralized.

The Santiago de Compostela derailment occurred on July 24 when an Alvia train en route from Madrid to Ferrol derailed just before reaching Santiago de Compostela station. Out of the 220 people aboard, 77 people were killed and 125 were injured. Unofficial technical reports disclose that the train was traveling at over twice the posted speed limit when it entered a curve.

Spain is home to a large number of Moldovan migrant workers.
