Soviet heroes under Moldovan State's protection

The Chisinau Government decided to take under its protection a series of monuments to Soviet heroes, erected in the capital during the 50s to the 80s. Such a decision was adopted on June 11. The Culture and Tourism Minister, Artur Cozma, and other Ministers asked by journalists refused to comment on the issue, Info-Prim Neo reports. So, the monument to Grigore Cotovschi (built in 1954), the monument to Komsomol heroes (1959), the monument to fighters for the Soviet power (1966), the monument to Serghei Lazo (1962), the monuments of liberators from the Fascist occupation (1969) have been added to the list of the monuments protected by the state. No reason is mentioned in the info-note to the decision, except for the fact that the authors of those monuments are known Moldovan sculptors. The Government has also decided to erect a monument to villagers fallen in Second World War in the village of Gura Galbenei, Cimislia district, while monuments to Moldovan prince Steven the Great are to be built in Telenesti and Causeni.
