Paintings, icons, watches, clothes, souvenirs, and books were among the gifts presented to President Maia Sandu during her official visits within the country and abroad, as well as during visits from foreign officials to the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
The most expensive gift received in 2024 was worth 17,490 lei and was given to the President by the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Chișinău, Ulvi Vagif oglu Bakhshaliyev, during the ceremony for the accreditation of the ambassadors. It is a woolen carpet in a traditional folk style, produced by the Carpet School in the Karabakh region.
Among the other expensive gifts was an icon worth 9,250 lei, presented by Father Veniamin, Bishop of Southern Bessarabia, during Maia Sandu's visit to the Cahul Eparchial Center of the Diocese.
Another gift was given by Catherine Colonna, the French Minister for Foreign Affairs, during the 5th edition of the Moldova Support Platform. It is a frosted glass souvenir representing a rose with open petals, handcrafted by the French art producer Daum from France.
A modern wall clock with a pendulum and cuckoo, handmade by the German production house Rombach & Haas, was given to the President by Winfried Kretschmann, the Prime Minister of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The clock costs 5,590 lei.
Throughout the past year, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, gifted Maia Sandu a framed painting – a reproduction of the work "The Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant." The gift was presented during the President's participation in the Ukraine Peace Summit. The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, during his official visit to Chișinău last year, gave Maia Sandu a colored glass fruit bowl with a vintage design.
Maia Sandu also received a sports suit and two cotton t-shirts from "Iuvas" during her visit to the factory. These gifts were transferred to the President's property through redemption.
Other gifts include: a set of three porcelain bowls with lids, a tin tray with the emblem of the U.S. Senate, a string bracelet with a flower-shaped pendant with 10 petals, made of brass plated with 14-carat gold, and a wristwatch.
Additionally, Maia Sandu received books: the album "Transylvania," the book "The Great Union 1918 Greater Romania: Acts and Documents," "The Story of Săvârșin Castle," the album "Tirana from the Air," the book "The Storting – 150 years of the Norwegian Parliament Building", and others.
The Presidential Administration specifies that all protocol gifts are included in the Register of Acceptable Gifts and have been transferred to the property of the Presidential Apparatus.
