The Șor Political Party MP, Violeta Ivanov, wants social workers with seniority at work to be granted, in honor of their professional day, a single payment allowance. The MP said that a draft decision has been prepared.
During a press conference, Violeta Ivanov said that social workers work in difficult conditions, while their pay is insufficient. "A social worker with higher education currently has a salary of almost four thousand lei, which is half the average salary. Due to low salaries, people leave the system, leading to a downward spiral. In 2018, only 1166 community social workers were employed and provided social assistance services to over two hundred thousand disadvantaged families", said Violeta Ivanov.
The MP added that the Șor parliamentary group is drafting a complex legislative package, which aims to ensure decent working conditions for social workers. "In the near future, we will put forward several legislative initiatives in this field, focusing on salary increases, social worker recruitment and on ensuring proper conditions for employees".
Moldovan social workers celebrate their professional day on the third Sunday of September.
